25 Days of Christmas Cookies

This is how my dunking cookies into coffee obsession began. My Gram would bake these cookies in the beginning of December. She would then wrap them up & hide them away in her attic until Christmas. She said that was the secret to why they tasted so good. I would dunk them into my mom's morning coffee.
Day 9
Gram's Christmas Walnut Cut Outs
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp walnut extract
2 tsp baking powder
4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup walnuts, ground
Extra walnut halves
Icing
1/3 cup butter
3 cups 10x sugar
2 tbsp coffee, strong
1-1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp maple extract
Directions
Preheat oven to 350⁰F. Cream butter and sugar in large mixing bowl until well combined. Add egg, milk, vanilla and walnut extract; beat until fluffy. Stir together flour, baking soda and ground walnuts; gradually add to mixture, beating until blended. Roll dough out 1/4" thick and cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased baking sheet and put walnut piece in center. Bake until golden brown, don't over bake. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely, then icing and sprinkle with colored sugar. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
