1. Aside from no deployments, what is one thing you would want to make the MilSpouse life “perfect”? (submitted by Oh How Delightful)  I would love for things to be planned out and set in stone. One minute I’m told hubby will be away this coming October thru December. I get my “he won’t be home for the holidays” pout out of my system. Then he says, “didn’t I tell you that was changed?” *grrr* *lol* You would think by now I would know better.
2. Just how many peppers did Peter Piper pick? (submitted by Married into Army)  More importantly, what is with him and his pepper fetish?
3. If you could have any career in the world with nothing holding you back, what would you do? (submitted by It’s My Party and I’ll Cry if I Want To)  I would want to own and run a B&B. I love the idea of entertaining people. I could over cook and bake till my heart was content.
4. Do you have a service oriented tattoo and if so what is it. If you don’t what would you get? (submitted by The Squid’s Accomplice)  But of course, I have three stars (red, white & blue) with a yellow ribbon. Hubby has the really cool ones though.
5. Imagine a block of time has opened up in your busy day for you to take a class in anything you like. What subject would you choose?  (submitted by To The Nth)  A writing course to help make mine more creative and fun. I feel drained lately.

1. Since most of the country has had nasty weather, what has your weather been like this week? It's been more icy than snowy here. Kiddos had no school on Tuesday or Wednesday. Christopher was activated on Tuesday due to bad weather and upcoming storm. He was home by Wednesday afternoon. Now Saturday is suppose to be another doozie. I miss summer.
2. What is/are your best money saving tip(s)? My best tip for myself is to stay out of Target. *lol* I'm not good with coupons but I meal plan and stick to my grocery list.
3. What was your favorite vehicle you’ve ever owned? That's a toss up between my 71 Mustang convertible and my current Kia Sportage.
4. What is a question you’d like to see asked in a future fill-in? During military separations (whether short or long) how do you keep yourself positive and motivated?
5. Fill in the blank: You might be a MilSpouse if…. you refer to your freinds as "my civilian friend so & so" or "my military friend so & so" during conversations. This can confuse civilians when you live in a non-military community.

1. If you were a famous movie star, what types of movies would you star in?  Easy. Romantic drama, pre-20th century period such as Jane Eyre, Mansfield Park and Pride & Prejudice. Swoon.
2. What is a vacation you would like to take if money were no object?  A month long family trip to Barbados. I know I sound like a broken record but I want to go back so bad. It was sunny, warm and my hand always had a fresh strawberry daiquiri in it.
3. Did you have pets growing up?  Tons. Dogs, one cat, one cocktail, a few parakeets, some pigeons, chickens, a few rabbits, a couple hamsters and lots of fish off and on.
4. What do you do for exercise?  I have a mean, hateful, vindictive and cruel treadmill.
5. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a MilSpouse?  Just go with the flow.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received or given? (from Jessica Lynn Writes )  My best gifts are the ones where my husband totally surprises me. This year's birthday I was pretty sure I was getting a new phone. I was excited when he came home from work and I knew I was moments away from new apps. *lol* When I came into the kitchen there on the table behind the flowers was the primitive country mirrored home sign I wanted. I didn't even think he was paying attention to me when I pointed it out in the shop. That sign totally beat out the phone.
2. Do you celebrate holidays differently when your loved one is deployed/gone or do you keep tradition? (from The Albrecht Squad ) I'm big on holiday traditions so we celebrate the same way whether he is home or not. BUT. I seem to over spend and buy present out of guilt because dad is away. One year I bought the kiddos a full size air hockey table. Oy. Have you ever tried to get rid of one of those? We just recently gave it away and we had to beg for them to take this like-new air hockey table. I hope Christopher has learned a lesson about being deployed over the holidays. *lol*  ;o)
3. If you celebrate Christmas, do you put an angel, star or something else on the top of your tree?  Angel. We bought her on our first Christmas together back in 1994. She was only $20 and was a make due angel until we could afford a better, more expensive one. We just never had the heart to replace her. She's beautiful and all her lights still work. As for the rest of the tree only Santa is allowed, even our Christmas balls are Mr & Mrs Claus.

4. What are your three favorite websites?  Facebook, SilentWarriers & Hulu
5. On your man do you prefer… boxers, briefs or boxer briefs? Or commando? (yeah, I’m starting to get desperate for questions!)  I love Christopher in boxer briefs or commando. TMI *lol* Those boxer briefs just hug so nicely.

1. What do you see your life like in 10 years?  *omg* In 10 years I could be a grandma! Our house will seem empty. Haillie will be done with college and living in England. Her career will be in digital graphics. Abby will still be in college, preferably close to home. Christopher will have 30 years in the Army so hopefully they would be kicking his old butt out. Then we could do some traveling or open up a B&B so I have someone to cook for.
2. What do you like most about your job?  My freedom! As a SAHM I am my own boss and the boss of all who reside here. *evil laugh*
3. What are three things you do every day, no matter what day it is?  Dishes. Facebook. Feeding everyone.
4. What would you do with an extra five hours in your day today?  I would use those extra hours for family fun time. We would watch a Christmas movie while everyone helps string the rest of that dang popcorn. Then some mini golf on the Wii followed by some board games. There would even be some time to bake cookies. Sounds wonderful.
5. What is your favorite Christmas (or whichever holiday you celebrate) cookie recipe (please share!)?  There are so many! Gram's Christmas Walnut Cut Outs, Mocha Crinkles, Pecan Sandies ... it's cookie overload at our home during the Christmas holiday.

1. If you were given $1,000 right now, how would you spend it?  I have a friend who could use it more than I so I would pass it along to her.
2. If you had to choose a movie title (a real one that already exists) for your life story, what would it be?  Eat Pray Love. I'm always cooking something. It feels like I'm always praying for my soldier's safety. And I'm head over heels, crazy in love with my man and our kiddos.
3. If you were a teacher, what subject would you like to teach?  Math. I've been busy doing math problems for Facebook friends who kiddos need help. The only problem being I'm good at getting the answer but bad at explaining how to do the problem.
4. Has being a MilSpouse changed how you view holidays or how your holidays are celebrated? If so, how? If not, what hasn’t changed?  Before 9/11 I would have said not really. We have traditions that I like to follow but our holidays were more laid back. Since 9/11 I tend to feel every holiday has to be the best just incase next year we won't be celebrating it together. Christopher and the girls have the same winter break and I have a sort of list of things I want to do as a family. Games to play, snacks to make, movies to watch and places to go.
5. What is your favorite Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) memory?  It would have to be Haillie's first Christmas. We were stationed at Ft. Drum and she was 8 months old. When we finished decorating the tree it was late and Christopher insisted on waking her up so she could see the tree. I was against the whole thing, you never wake a sleeping baby. He brings her into the living room and when she sees the tree her eyes grew wide. She was mesmerized. The look on her face was priceless and when I finally put her back into her crib she went right to sleep.

1. If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs – such as food and water – were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?  This is an easy one. Christopher and my iPod. No children allowed. No cell phones. No Army. No football. I would have his undivided attention and not have to share for a moment. Bliss!
2. If you were a salad, what kind of dressing would you have?  Hidden Valley Ranch ... also good for dipping your pizza into.
3. If you had to live on a ranch, what kind of animals would you raise/own?  I was going to say chinchillas! Only because it's a fun word to say. Think of the looks on people's faces when they ask what you do for a living and you tell them you're a chinchilla farmer. But then I read they are raised for their fur and they look too mouse like for me to get near. *shiver* I really hate mice. So how about alpacas. Cute and you don't have to kill them for their fleece.
4. If your life was was portrayed as a movie, who would you choose to play you and your significant other?  I have this twisted fantasy of my husband as a superhero/ action/drama/leading man kind of guy. He can be serious, stern and kicking the bad guys butt protecting my honor one minute and the next funny, loving and holding me in his arms. For him I pick Ryan Reynolds. I'm stumped on me.
5. What was the last thing you put a stamp on (envelope, duh, but what was in the envelope)?  The only thing I mail anymore are Netflix movies and no stamp is needed. I think I mailed out a birthday card in September. Maybe.

1. A different twist on last week’s question. This week, the first question is:  What’s the nicest thing a MILSPOUSE has ever done for you?  (brought to you from navy_smurfette)  During deployments my online milspouses are my rocks. They are the women who listen to my complain without judgement. Civilians don't get it. We were full timers prior to 9/11 so when Christopher would be away it was only for training or schooling. When 9/11 happened and deployments became apart of our lives he was in the NG. We don't live near his unit, there are no military families in the town we live in and my military friends are online. I'm very grateful for them and hope I'm there for them the way they are there for me.
2. How often do you drive faster than the speed limit?  I do a consistent 10 mph over pretty much all the time. Which compared to my husband's driving is nothing.
3. Did you have a nickname in school?  If so, what was it?  "Tag" it was short for my maiden name. Kids starting calling me that in 9th grade because it was my grandfather's nickname and my dad's. One girl's dad worked with mine and she started calling me "Tag" and it stuck.
4. If your life was a book, what would the title be and how would it end?  "The Domestic Goddess Handbook: of what not to do" hopefully it ends with a happily ever after. I'm still waiting to see myself.
5. Look back (in your planner if you have one) to September 14th… what did you do that day?  I won my first blog giveaway! A $35 gift card for CNS Stores, which I used to buy a Flirty Apron. I took Mocha to the groomers. Did yoga and kettlebell exercises. I made steak and garlic oven fries for dinner.

1. What’s the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you?  I have had help loading groceries into my car. It's happened more than once. Not sure why as I am full capable and wasn't struggling. Twice while going through the Dunkin Donuts drive thru the car ahead of me paid for me coffee. That just makes my day!
2. If you are having a hard time going to sleep, what do you do to help yourself?  I only have trouble sleeping when Christopher isn't home. You would think by now I would be better about sleeping alone. I'm not. I either read a book or get on the treadmill.
3. Name something that makes you wish you were a kid again.  Chores, bills, responsibility, taxes, deployments, parenting... the list goes on and on.
4. What is something you never believed until you experienced it?  That you will forget the pain of being in labor. During labor you want to kill all those women who made that comment. But it is so true. I would have more kiddos in a heartbeat.
5. What can’t you say “no” to?  Everything. If you have an unruly child that no one wants to babysit, call me. If there is a fundraiser to be done and no one wants to participate, I won't say no to running it alone. Short staffed at work on my one day off after working ten days in a row, of course I'll come in. I really need to work on saying NO!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

1. Are you a night owl or an early bird?  Neither! I have my most energy from 3:00p till 8:00p and after that I'm useless. I use to love tucking the girls in at bedtime then snuggling in bed with Christopher and watching a movie. Not anymore. I fall asleep 10-15 minutes once we are in bed. If we watch a movie in the living room my head better not touch his chest or I'm out like a light. It's horrible. *lol* I feel so bad for him.
2. What makes you jealous?  At the moment the Army makes me more jealous than anything. It's like the other women at times. *lol* Christopher is an ROTC Instructor and in the NG. On top of working Monday thru Friday his next four weekends are booked. *grrr* I know I should be grateful that we are in the same time zone but I'm greedy and hate sleeping alone so much.
3. Have you started Christmas/holiday shopping yet? When will you finish? (There’s only 63 days left!)  I have not started and will most likely finish in a panic on December 23. I am absolutely horrible at Christmas shopping. I worry about spending money, I question every purchase and stress out on whether or not I'm buying something the person really wants. I set limits and yet we always over spend. I wish we only bought for the kiddos, that would easier. Buying for adults who don't need anything and buy whatever they want is tough.
4. What would you have a personal chef make you tonight?  I would want my personal chef to be from Barbados because while we were there we ate so many different types of fish. I can't seem to make any kind of fish other than breaded haddock. We had fish cakes, flying fish, barracuda, king fish (wahoo), snapper, bill fish, chubb and yellow fin tuna. I tried a little bit of everything and it was all delicious.
5. Where was your first kiss?  At the end of a school dance right before my date's mom picked us up. I was fourteen and he totally caught me off guard. It wasn't an awesome kiss and there were no sparks. I broke up with him the following week.

1. What are some things on your bucket list?  (from New Girl on Post)  Traveling. Other than Barbados I've never been outside the US. At the top of my list would be Italy. Followed by Germany, England and then Ireland. I would love to take a family trip to England and have Haillie as our tour guide. Then I want Christopher to show me all the different places he has been.
2. How long have you been a MilSpouse and where have you been stationed so far?  (from Raising Roscoe)  It has been 16 yrs now. Ouch! But I really didn't get the full effect of this lifestyle until 9/11. I remember, way back when, thinking him being out in the field for two weeks was long. *lol* Younger me was such a wussy. We've only been stationed at Ft Drum. After the birth of our first daughter he didn't reenlist and we moved back home to Pennsylvania. He joined the National Guard. It's actually funny, we thought he would be home more but it was the opposite. Deployments in a non-military area are rough.
3. What is a list of songs that sums up your life so far?  (from Confessions of a Sailor’s Wife)  This is a tough one. 
4. What is your favorite kind of pizza?  *omg* Pizza is just the awesomest food ever! I love homemade pizza with a butter garlic sauce, mozzerrella cheese and slices of tomatoes from the garden. I could eat that everyday.
5. What are three good things in your life right now?  Christopher, Haillie & Abby. I'm married to my best friend who loves me no matter what. My oldest daughter has artistic skills that just amaze me. I love that she resembles me and she is someone I can goof around with. My youngest daughter is my cuddler and will still sit on my lap. She resembles her dad and is my social butterfly. I love being able to take a step back and watch the three of them interact without me.

Time to have some fun! I've been tagged by Paula from "Queen of My Castle" to answer 8 questions she posted. After I answer those I am going to post 8 different questions and tag 8 people. What a fun way to get to know each other. I was asked…

1. If you could go back and start all over at the age of 21, would you? Why or why not?   I most certainly would not go back. *lol* Stress and drama. I met my husband and ran away from home out of state with a man I barely knew. My parents and I really didn't talk for about two years. His mom was less than happy with the whole situtation. Then we had our first daughter and for someone so little she sure mended a lot of bridges.
2. What would be the perfect pet for you?   I have my perfect pet, my Yorkie! "Little Miss Mocha Jo".
   
   When I first met her she fit in the palm of my hand. Now at 4 years old Mocha weighs 3-1/2 pounds. She goes with me almost everywhere shopping, visiting family and friends, the library and family vacations. I am now one of those people who put pajamas on their dog in cold weather and have a special dog purse for when going out. My most recent purchase was a shoulder sling so she could go hiking with us on our trip to Ohio. She is in love with her dad to the point if we are cuddling she tries to push her way in between us. I don't think she knows she is a dog.
3. If you were a car, what kind would you be?  A shiny laser red 2010 Saab Aero Convertible. For no other reason than just because.
4. What is in the floor of your closet?   Plywood and tools.
   
   Right now all of our upstairs closets are gutted. We are still in the midst of completing what seems like never ending renovations to the second floor of our home. Our bedroom closet has never been so clutter free. Downside being whenever you need anything you have to head to the attic and search through boxes.
5. If you had the chance to do anything you wanted for a living, what would it be?   I would either want to be a Web Designer or an owner of a B&B. It's a toss up. Maybe an owner of a B&B who does Freelance Web Designing from home. I could cook, clean and entertain in my own home for grateful people who would pay me. What part of that just doesn't sound awesome?
6. If you had the chance to spend one day with someone who is gone from your life, how would you spend it?   That is so easy… my Papa. He was the perfect man. He has been gone for 23 years now and I still miss him terribly. He told me to stay away from boys and promised that the braces would be worth all the pain. I would just love to spend the day catching him up on my life. Being able to introduce him to my girls, he would have spoiled them rotten. Then making him a batch of homemade gnocchi to see if they past his taste test.
7. Describe yourself in 200 words or less. (sorry, I stole that one)  My daughter describes me as "fluffy with the mouth of a sailor". Smart Ass Child! I am "Little Miss Suzy Homemaker" with OCD. I want our home clean enough that you can eat off the floors. Not that you should. I love cooking and baking from scratch for my family. I'm a people please to a fault. I will help you out when you need someone but will never ask for help myself. I wish I would get over that. I love being a wife and a SAHM but sometimes miss having a career. I am a worrier. I'm an emotional eater and it doesn't help that I love all types of food. I battle with thyroid disease and autoimmune issues. No fun. I do well with putting up with people's BS but heaven forbid if you even look at my kiddos the wrong way. *smile*
8. What is your favorite holiday? How would you spend it if you could have your way?  Christmas! And we do spend it MY way. *lol* It starts in October with planning out which top twenty cookies will be on the cookie trays. Then I make a list of who will receive trays so that I can start stock piling ingredients. In November I enlist the help of my kiddos to start stringing popcorn for the tree and all the garland around the house. Cards are also addressed, signed and ready to go out. After Thanksgiving Christmas music is almost always on, my iPod is loaded! December 1 is when I mail out our Christmas cards and the first weekend we make applesauce cinnamon ornements for the tree.
   
   I start planning out food for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. As a family we drive to the tree farm and pick out our tree. We decorate it while watching "A Christmas Story". That movie is a timeless family favorite and from that night on it's played over and over again. I bake lots of cookies. We host Christmas Eve at our home so I can over cook and entertain. Everyone is welcome to come, last year I FaceBook'ed that that everyone was welcomed to stop by, if you leave our home hungry it's your own fault. Once everyone is gone and the kitchen is cleaned up I make sticky buns for Christmas morning, that at our home too. When the kiddos wake up Christmas morning they call my parents to come down. While we wait for them to get to our home I start coffee and breakfast. Once all the morning hubbub is over we get ready to drive an hour and a half to Christopher's family to do it all again. It's a holiday at our home from then on till January 2.

1. What is the silliest get-up you have ever worn outside of a Halloween party?  (from To The Nth)  While working at Showbiz Biz (ages 15-17) I would dress up as "Billy Bob". One time out of boredom we decided to take "Billy Bob" to the mall and walk around. I was escorted out by security.
2. What is something that you gave up in order to live the military lifestyle?  (from Pennies from Heaven)  I can't really think of anything. Maybe my career in mechanical engineering. That field wasn't relocating friendly. Eventually I gave it up to be a domestic engineering, the hours are worse but the pay is way better.
3. If money wasn’t a factor and you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why?  (from Life and Times of a Displaced Jersey Girl)  I don't know of the location but I would want to own a B&B next to a trout stream. Attached to our B&B would be a fly tying shop. I could cook and bake all the time and Christopher could take them out fly fishing. Absolute bliss.
4. If you were going to join the military, what branch would you join? Or which MOS/rating would you choose?  (from Anonymous)  I almost did join the Army after high school. I played flute, clarinet and sax and wanted to join the band. I chickened the morning of my physical and had one very angry recruiter on my hands. He blew up on me, I was crying, it was a mess. I think if he would of been more understanding and handled the situation differently I probably would have ended up going. 
5. What is your favorite thing to make for dinner?  (from Armendinger Party of 4)  Everything!

1. How do you spend your deployment money, do you save, pay off bills or enjoy the extra money while it is there to buy the things you do not normally have?  (from Troop Petrie)  Yes, yes and yes. I have a system worked out. Our first paycheck of the month goes towards the bills. Last time we had only one credit card and I would make double payments on it. Half of our second paycheck would go into our savings account. We both tend to do more retail therapy during deployments. Christopher bought me a living room set online while he was in Iraq. He bought me a new laptop and digital camera online while in Afghanistan. That's why I think it's important to stash some in the savings. If we don't see it we don't spend it.
2. If you could relive one occasion or moment, what would it be?  (from Currently On Land)  This is going to sound so cliché but our wedding afternoon since I barely remember it. *lol* Christopher was stationed at Ft. Drum and since we weren't married we lived off base in Watertown. He called home on a Wednesday afternoon to tell me he was coming home early and would I like to get married now. We already had all the paperwork done and he called the JP. He comes home, we get dressed up, run to the ATM for $25 to give the JP and interrupt the JP's dinner. We were married in his living room and I really don't remember much of it. It went so fast and we didn't think to take the camera (pre-digital days).
3. What's the worst job you ever had and if it was so bad why did you take it?  (from Faith and Deploying)  I never really had a bad job. I worked at pizza places through high school (Showbiz Pizza Place/Chuck E. Cheese/Little Caesar's) and had fun. Through college I sold shoes (Sears/Champion) and did great on commission. Then I worked in the engineering field first designing A/C units for buses and then hospital feed pumps and thermometers. I think the worst part of working in the engineering field was being a women I had to work harder to prove my ideas were right.
4. If you could play any character on TV, who would you be?   (from Many Waters)  Melissa from "Melissa & Joey" on ABC Family. If you haven't seen it head over to Hulu. I like their on screen chemistry and his abs. *lol* They also did a movie together "My Fake Fiance" and it too can be watched on Hulu.
5. If you could become the world's expert in something, what would it be?  (from Army of Two)  I would love to be an expert of Adobe Design Programs (PhotoShop, Illustrator & Flash) and web design. When I went back to school for web design I was really hoping to be able to freelance and work from home. I just don't seem to have the time to sit down, undistracted and focus. So if you could just zap! all that info straight into my noggin that would be great.

1. Do you set goals for yourself during deployment? What are some of them? (from Military Mommy)  My main goal is to stay sane and not sell our children. Followed by losing weight by eating healthy and exercising. I have learned over the past that stress makes me eat. So I try to have less junk food in the house and more fresh fruits and veggies. Ice cream is just evil during deployments.
2. What would you say to someone dating a military guy or gal? (from Mothering Off the Cuff)  Roll with the punches. This life is not for everyone. Love every minute that you are together because being apart will fill like eternity.
3. If you have children, how do you prepare them to move to a new place? (from The Random Ramblings of A Household 6)  Our kiddos are been very lucky in this area. Haillie was too young to remember moving from Ft Drum to PA. With Christopher being and ROTC Instructor and in the NG we haven't moved in 13 years.
4. Name one hobby that gets you through alone time. (from My Sailor's Mistress)  Thank God for the internet! If you can consider that a hobby. Then there is baking, I love to bake and when stressed I bake a lot. My friends usually gain weight during our deployments because I'm also giving away baked goods.
5. What's the one food you don't ever get tired of? (from That Army Wife Life)  Salads. Especially with fresh veggies from the garden right now. I just can't get enough!

1. What is a weird/funny superstition that you have? (from A{muse}ing Mommy on a Pink Park Bench) I don't think I'm superstitious. At least nothing is coming to mind.
2. What are your hopes and dreams for the years AFTER the military? After all, we aren't in it forever!(from Stetsons, Spurs and Stilettos) Funny you should ask because I thought we were getting out once that 20 year letter arrived but yet over there it sits getting dusty. Once the Army kicks my husband out we plan to do more traveling.
3. Since [this] month is National Apple Month (no really!), I'd probably ask: What is your yummiest apple recipe? (from NH Girl Displaced) I love baking with apples! I won a baking contest with an Apple Merigue Pie but tend to bake more Apple Dumplings and Deep Dish Apple Pies. I have a recipe for Apple Pie Bars that I can't wait to try.
4. How long have you gone as a military spouse without talking to your husband/wife during service?(from A Navy Princess and Her Little Sailors) We've been through three deployments and have been very lucky. The longest time we've gone without talking or emailing was three weeks. It was a long three weeks but I'm thankful it wasn't longer.
5. I occasionally watch When I was 17… on MTV. So, what was something that was significant about your 17th year of life? (from Ashley Amazing) I graduated from high school! My father bought me my first convertible. I think every other weekend I was about the beach. I had no responsibilities, what an awesome summer! The only downside was I still had a curfew until I turned 18 in November.
