Would you breastfeed a stranger's child?

Leave it to Momversation to kick off the new year with a doozy of a question. Am I getting old? Because this never crossed my mind before. I don’t have a problem with the “wet nurse” idea but I personally wouldn’t allow someone I just met breastfeed my child. I didn’t even think about diseases, my first thought was do you know what she ate and drank for dinner? My friend’s little boy would get so cranky with certain foods and dairy products. But the beauty of this situation is that it wasn’t my baby or my breast making it none of my business. These moms did what they were comfortable doing, we have to allow people to make their own choices. What’s right or wrong for one person isn’t the same for the next.

Bucket Lists: What's on Yours?
Haillie is laughing at my pathetic-ness! But I have some theories worked out my lack of a list.
Theory #1: I worry too much about injury and consequences. Even if there were more on my list you wouldn't find anything to do with large bodies of non chlorine water or something that requires me to be higher off the ground than four feet.
Theory #2: My husband does more than plenty adventurous things for the both of us. He loves jumping out of planes and being shot at. He's climbed and repelled off of mountains of gigantic sizes in both summer and winter. He's traveled to so many places some I can't even properly pronounce. His list of completed items is endless. I'm the Yin to his Yang.
Theory #3: My bucket list was just so simple that I've already completed it. Ever since my Barbie met Ken I wanted to be a wife. I had the career where I was an important team member. I've danced all night. I wanted to be a mommy and have girls. I've made love on the beach. I've been to Disney. I feel completely and unconditionally loved. I've been to Barbados. I've swam with the turtles, not by choice but glad I did it. If I died tomorrow I would be fine with what I've done.

Worst Parent of the Year?
When my oldest daughter was ten we went to the Orthodontist for the first stage of getting her braces on. Now normally I’m a very calm mom, I don’t raise my voice, I don’t get angry and I especially don’t curse around our girls. This is a key point to my story. They call us back for her appointment and one minute everything is fine. Then the Orthodontist comes in and my daughter closes her mouth and puts both of her hands over it. I was shocked by her behavior. The Ortho explains what she is going to do and not to be scared. My daughter doesn’t budge. The Ortho then tries to pry my daughter’s hands away. After 20 minutes the Ortho is fed up with my child, tells me she never met such a disrespectful child, bring her back in six months and maybe by then she will have grown up some. I was furious at the Ortho for the way she treated my child, I was furious at my daughter for the way she was acting. We leave the office and get in the car and my daughter laughingly says, “whoa, that was close.” I lost it! I turned to her and started yelling with all kinds of curse words attached to include… what the f--- is wrong with you?! The look on her face made me froze. What kind of mom does that? We were both crying, I apologized, she apologized. Then she asked if we could go back into the office? She promised to behave. We went back in and they let us finish her appointment. I never felt so bad in my life, totally didn’t handle that situation well at all.

Sleeping Arrangements: What Are Your Family's?
Growing up I shared a room with my younger sister, we even shared a bed. I never had a moments peace, she broke my toys, I was a clean freak, she liked living in a pig pen… she was a bed wetter, need I say more. I remember saying, “when I grow up my kids would have their own room”. In addition to that I love sex and sleep! With that said our girls have always slept in their own cribs/beds in their own rooms. Everyone’s bedroom doors are open. It’s not like I have them locked up and put away for the night. This is probably the only parental area that I have held my ground on. And maybe it’s because they take after me and have always been good sleepers that it has never been an issue. There are those occasions, especially during a deployment, that someone climbs into bed with me. I’m fine with that, we all next some extra comforting from time to time. But when I hear my friend gratefully stating that her five yr old finally feel asleep by midnight after she laid down with him. OH NO THANK YOU! I don’t see how you can recharge, where is your down time, a grown up moment.
Now let’s talk teenagers! This is a whole new can of worms for me as our oldest is now thirteen. She went from a child who slept from nine at night till seven in the morning to this creature who is up till midnight and has to be up for school by six. The rule is all laptops off by eight and all other electrical devices off by nine. She reads till midnight or later, gets up by six on her own with no problem. I just don’t think that is enough sleep and I’m about to drug her or at least give her a shot of bourbon. (jk) Where’s the book “What to Expect the Teen Years”?
